Identified amongst the 40 most biologically rich ecoregions in the world, the Indus Ecoregion covers approximately 65% of the province of Sindh and occupies 18 districts of Sindh while a small northwestern part of the ecoregion extends slightly into Balochistan

The Indus Ecoregion Programme is an ambitious long-term (2006-2056) initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF-P) and the Government of Sindh that will address poverty and natural resource degradation in the Indus Ecoregion.

 


*Call for Proposals: Grants are available for Nature Conservation*

Project grants are available for relevant government departments, registered
NGOs/CBOs and academic institutions. Projects addressing the conservation
issues of the areas mentioned in grant guidelines would be given preference.
Last date for submission of Project Proposals is Tuesday *14 July 2009.*

Three-Day Training Workshop on EIA held for District Government Officials.

Indus for All Programme organized three day training workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for District Government officials. During the workshop an introduction of Indus for All Programme was made by the Programme Coordinator, Nasir Ali Panhwar. The training covered various aspects of EIA including core concepts of EIA, stakeholders and their role, EIA process and contents, scope of EIA report, critical evaluation of EIA report.more

The speakers have emphasized the need to protect biodiversity and ensure water to sustain the biodiversity in Sindh.

They were speaking at the ceremony, which was organized to mark international biodiversity day. The ceremony as organized by Indus for All Programme- WWF Pakistan and attended by more than thousand students of various schools around Pai Forest in Shaheed Benazirabad District.more

Syed Asad Ali Conservation Award 2009

The award aims to recognise conservationists with outstanding contributions in nature conservation in Pakistan. The winner will be awarded Rs. 50,000 cash, a medal and a certificate of appreciation.

Individuals/organisations are invited to nominate suitable candidates. Please submit the candidate’s CV and one page description of the achievements by August 17, 2009 to hayesha@wwf.org.pk .more
